Tisha Johnson – Hair Stylist

Tisha Johnson, Hair Stylist

Are you originally from this area? I was born in Indiana and moved to TN when I was 10.

Did you always want to do hair? For as long as I can remember,  I have wanted to be a stylist, but my passion for the beauty industry really started in highschool. Heritage High School offered a cosmetology starter program, so at age 16, I got my first taste of what would become a career I love!  Immediately after high school, like many, I decided to go to college to pursue a different career. My choice led me to spend more time with numbers than people – a change was needed because I LOVE people! I made the decision that I would pair my love for people with my love of the beauty industry and fast-forward to today — here I am!

Do you have any nicknames?  I actually have 3 nicknames.  One is “Tot” and it was given to me by my family when I was very young.  I’m not sure who started it, but it stuck.

My second nickname is “Mingo.”  Only a handful of friends call me that but it is because I was named after my great great Aunt Tishomingo.  Tishomingo is an Indian name.  I wasn’t very fond of it when I was younger because it is so different, but now I love it because it makes for an interesting story.

My Third is “Aunt Toochi.”  It was given to me by my oldest nephew and just stuck with the other 4 younger kids.  Including my daughter who calls me “Toochi” every now and then. LOL!

What’s your favorite food? I actually have many favorite foods.  But you can never go wrong with a good burger and fries.  My husband and I do alot of cooking so we are always trying new recipes.

What are our favorite movies? I enjoy a lot of movies but the two I can never get enough of are: The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do? When I am not at work I am with my family.  I have been married since August of 2016 and we have a daughter.  I spend a lot of time with my nieces and nephews. I love that they are so close in age, because I know they’ll always be close to one another.
