I am excited to be a part of the On Broadway Salon team. While I’m new to the salon, I’m not new to the beauty industry. I love transforming the way my customers feel about themselves through fresh color, cuts and styles. When I’m not at the salon, I’m spending time with my boys. If you’d like to make an appointment, please call the salon at 865-982-4584.
An interview with: Julia Henry
Where are you from? Walland, TN
What made you decide to do hair? I took cosmetology as an elective in high school and earned hours for it, so I decided to continue on and finish my hours after high school. I wasn’t sure senior year what I wanted to do as a career but I really enjoyed cosmetology and I knew it would help me earn more money if I did decide to go to college afterwards, and I’d always have it to fall back on. I always had interest in the forensics field, investigation, as well as being a judge, I wanted to help people.
It wasn’t until my 3rd year doing hair that I can say I truly fell in love with it, I realized I do get to change people’s lives and make a difference, but I realized even more how my guests had changed my life. They weren’t just a paycheck and another haircut, they were my friends, family, and inspiration. These are people I truly connect with and care for in more ways than just making them feel beautiful. And that’s what made me want to make this my forever career.
What was your very first job: When I was 16 I started my first job as a cashier for Food City in Maryville, over my 4 years there I was promoted to Assistant Manager of the video rentals department. I worked there and JC Penney Salon when I first started doing hair because I genuinely enjoyed my job there as well and made some great friends and clients that I still have now.
Do you have a nickname? Back in middle school, I got the nickname “Jules”and it kinda stuck throughout my adult life, at Hair Plus the girls picked it up and it stuck. Some people get confused on whether to call me Julia or Julie, because I call myself both and also write both, I’m good with either. My birth certificate says Julia but even my momma calls me Julie, she just named me after the sweetest soul, my great mamaw so when I was little they called me Julie and her Julia.
What’s your favorite food? Pizza, hands down would eat it everyday. I may or may not be guilty of doing that.
What’s your favorite movie? I’m not a huge movie watcher, I usually watch them after they aren’t popular anymore. But I’m a sucker for a good movie that can make me laugh, or has a lot of suspense and mystery.
What are you doing when you aren’t working? Currently I’m remodeling the house that my Papaw grew up in. It’s a sweet little house and I enjoy learning how to do things from my dad, and it’s especially rewarding to see how proud my papaw is that it’s getting a well deserved makeover.
If you’d like to make an appointment with Julia (aka. Julie) you can call her directly on her cell at 865-805-6293.
Are you originally from this area? I was born in Indiana and moved to TN when I was 10.
Did you always want to do hair? For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a stylist, but my passion for the beauty industry really started in highschool. Heritage High School offered a cosmetology starter program, so at age 16, I got my first taste of what would become a career I love! Immediately after high school, like many, I decided to go to college to pursue a different career. My choice led me to spend more time with numbers than people – a change was needed because I LOVE people! I made the decision that I would pair my love for people with my love of the beauty industry and fast-forward to today — here I am!
Do you have any nicknames? I actually have 3 nicknames. One is “Tot” and it was given to me by my family when I was very young. I’m not sure who started it, but it stuck.
My second nickname is “Mingo.” Only a handful of friends call me that but it is because I was named after my great great Aunt Tishomingo. Tishomingo is an Indian name. I wasn’t very fond of it when I was younger because it is so different, but now I love it because it makes for an interesting story.
My Third is “Aunt Toochi.” It was given to me by my oldest nephew and just stuck with the other 4 younger kids. Including my daughter who calls me “Toochi” every now and then. LOL!
What’s your favorite food? I actually have many favorite foods. But you can never go wrong with a good burger and fries. My husband and I do alot of cooking so we are always trying new recipes.
What are our favorite movies? I enjoy a lot of movies but the two I can never get enough of are: The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do? When I am not at work I am with my family. I have been married since August of 2016 and we have a 3-year-old daughter. I also spend a lot of time with my nieces and nephews. There are 5 kids total all under the age of 6. I love that they are so close in age, because I know they’ll always be close and always always have friends.

I’ve been a hair stylist for 5 years and recently moved to this beautiful area from Western New York. My husband and I are newly empty-nesters and couldn’t be more excited to build our future in Tennessee! We visited Maryville 2 years ago and fell in love with the people and the scenery. We couldn’t wait to call it home! When I was introduced to the ladies at On Broadway I immediately felt it was where I belonged. The warm and welcoming charm was exactly what I hoping to find! I’m proud and honored to be a part of it and to make my new family (clients) feel the same way.
I got into the beauty industry after a fire happened in a restaurant I co-owned. Though I still did catering, I needed a change. I had always done haircuts for friends and family, even while I was younger, so this was an easy transition. I truly enjoy making my client’s days brighter as I firmly believe that a “hair stylist” is more than just hair. I enjoy building friendships with my clients.
I have many hobbies including power-lifting and body building. I’m actually an RPS World Record holder in my age and weight group. I’m looking forward to stepping on the stage again soon now they we are getting settled in the area. I also plan to tryout for the Knoxville Lightning professional woman’s football team this fall. I have always been an athlete and enjoy many sports. This probably explains why ” A League of Their Own” is my favorite movie.
My husband and I also enjoy the water and kayaking or fishing whenever we can. We both are extreme music lovers and have a studio in our home with plenty of instruments. I hope the new neighbors don’t mind… 😉 We enjoy pretty much every type of music but our heart is in country and southern rock. Our dream is to one day get a song recorded!
If I ever won the lottery I would buy the house of our dreams on the lake and move all of our kids and grand kids here. Leaving them in New York was the hardest thing we’ve done. It would be heaven to see them everyday.
I would love the opportunity to meet you and discuss the perfect look for you! Please don’t hesitate to call the salon (865) 982-4584or my cell (607) 382-4890 with any questions or to schedule your next appointment.
For as long as I can remember, I have LOVED doing hair. When I was little, I would always play with my Barbie’s hair and sometimes even my dad’s – and I have the photos to prove it! My mom was a cosmetologist, so I grew up around every aspect of the beauty industry and have always known it was my calling.
This is my first year being with On Broadway Salon and I’m so anxious to build relationships with my clients. I love being able to transform someone’s appearance and self esteem – this makes my career choice even more enjoyable and worth while. While there isn’t anything I don’t like about this industry, I can easily say that cuts and colors are my favorite; as dramatic or as simple as my customer wants or needs.
When I’m not at the salon, I’m probably with my fiance or my family. I’m a huge tomboy when it comes to hobbies. I enjoy four-wheeling, fishing, swimming, bonfires and getting muddy. From beauty and polish to outdoorsy and muddy- I guess I’m everything in between, which I think is normal for a small-town girl.
You can find me at the salon Tuesday – Saturday. I accept walk-ins, but I like to make sure I have the proper amount of time for each client, so appointments are preferred. You can book an appointment with me by calling: 865-982-4584 or you can request an appointment through the Contact Us page.

Number of years doing hair: 43+ years. My first job when we moved here was at the House of Hair, where I worked for Kenneth Melton & Jack Coker – for 38 years. I appreciate the “family feel” that comes from working with a great team of people for so long together.
What I love most about doing hair: The people and the friendships that result from spending time together. Clients become more like family. I love doing perms, roller sets, cuts and styles!
When I’m not at work, you can find me at home on the farm taking care of horses, cats or dogs. When I’m not working with animals, I enjoy needlework, reading a great book, catching a movie with my husband, rides in the mustang and of course a little retail therapy.
What TV character/actor are you most like and why? I’d have to say one of the Golden Girls; I was raised in West Palm Beach and I love the camaraderie of the girls. I moved here in 1976.
One item on my bucket list I plan to accomplish in the next five years: I would like to go out west and to Alaska.
If I win the lottery, the first thing I would do is: Well, first, I would have to play the lottery – but if I did and IF I won, I would pay off bills, then focus on helping my family and my church.
Favorite restaurant: Cheddars
Favorite movie: Sleepless in Seattle
Growing up, I first thought I wanted to be a teacher, but by the time I finished high school, I enjoyed doing hair so I went to beauty school and I have enjoyed it ever since – never a dull moment!
That’s a bit about me, I hope to learn about you too – for an appointment, please call 865-982-4584.
I have been a hair stylist for more than 15 years, most of which I have spent with “my girls” at On Broadway Salon. Hairstyling has been a calling for several of my family members and I was hooked by the age of 8.
I grew up spending weekends and summer nights at my aunt and uncle’s house with my cousin/chosen sister, Abby. My aunt always had a salon in her home and I would spend hours watching her work her magic with her clients. As fate would have it, I actually inherited several of those clients when my Aunt Becky retired from hairstyling. What a blessing!
The first haircut I ever gave was at the Alcoa Little League ball fields on the bleachers. I was a kid, watching my brothers play ball when a kind-hearted man by the name of Tony Lollar mentioned needing a haircut. I decided at that moment that I was the person for the job.
That sweet man sat patiently as I chopped, hacked and sawed away at his hair with Swiss Army knife scissors!!! It was the only pair of scissors we could find. There are people in life that sacrifice themselves to let a kid’s dreams soar, and I will never forget what he did for me that summer day! I’m sure he was at the barbershop the next morning trying to undo the mess I made. But he made me feel like I could accomplish any dream that night. Needless to say, I do not use a Swiss Army knife scissors these days!
I love my job. I am a creative person and I love to be busy with my hands. Hairstyling is an art and a craft. It is a start to finish project with structure, lines, creativity and insight.
I love doing color and hair cutting. It is amazing the difference you can make in someone’s appearance with a 30-minute makeover. I get to visit with friends “clients” all day. I get to be creative, I get to challenge myself to make people happy with their hair and I get to leave work with a smile on my face and a sense of accomplishment every day. I love my job and I love my salon. We all love each other like family and there is nowhere else I would rather spend my working days.
I have been blessed beyond belief in this business. I have a steady clientele, clients that I truly love, a job that allows me to chase my dreams and live a life that I am proud of. I would be nothing without the wonderful clients/friends who have chosen me in this wonderful journey called life.
When I’m not at work, I spend as much time as possible with my family and friends. I love to do craft hobbies; I enjoy doing anything outside – yard work, home improvement projects, camping, or going to the lake, beach or pool. I love to cook and have social gatherings with loved ones.
I LOVE music with all my soul -if I had to name a personal theme song, it would be “Lucky” by SevenMary3. Steel Magnolias will ALWAYS be the best movie ever made. I cry every time I watch it.
If I won the lottery, I would buy a motor home and visit every historic town in the US, every antique store, craft store and enjoy the land I love. I would love to meet people, make memories and “live” every minute of the journey. Then I would return “home” to Maryille and build a community for all of my loved ones. I would also help people I meet along the way that could benefit from a blessing. I believe charity starts at home. I believe God puts us here to love one another and help one another in times of need – that ‘one-to-one’ experience speaks to me.
I keep a busy schedule when I’m at the salon, but I always welcome new customers. Call 865-982-4584 today to schedule an appointment or consultation.

I am a very simple person – I am nothing without Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. He has blessed me so and I thank him for being so good to me. I have worked in the industry for 26+ years. I feel truly grateful to love my work and enjoy the big and small things I’ve learned from my clients along the way.
At age 12, I took a “real” interest in my hair. For me, it’s just always been there, I guess you could say it’s in my blood.
I am blessed to have a family I love spending time with and a husband with a green thumb – we love to garden and enjoy the fruits (literally) of our labor.
You can catch me in the salon on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Please call 865-982-4584 for an appointment.
Number of years doing hair: 30 years this year!
What I love most about doing hair: I love my fellow employees because they are family to me and I love my customers and the joys and struggles they share. The stories my colleagues and customers share always find their way to my heart. I am reminded, almost daily about my health, happiness and my family. I’ve always had a passion for doing hair; I’ve known this is what I wanted to do since I was 10 years old, I LOVE it!
When I’m not at work, you can find me: Running after or with any of my three grandchildren, who I dearly love – but I have been known to say “I go to work so I can rest and relax.” Ha!
What TV character/actor are you most like and why? I would have to say Carol Brady from the Brady Bunch because I am a mother to all of the people in my life.
The one item on my bucket list I’m planning to accomplish in the next five years: I would love to go to Hawaii!
If I win the lottery, the first thing I’m going to do is: I would pay off my house and cars and then help my family and friends pay theirs off. Next, I would buy a vacation home in Myrtle Beach.
Favorite Restaurant: Aubrey’s
Favorite Movie: Steel Magnolias
I hope to learn about you too – for an appointment, please call 865-982-4584.
